An 18-volt NiCad (nickel-cadmium) battery is used. However, it is not the lightest model of handheld machines available and weighs five pounds.
The initial first charge needs to be 24 hours. After that, it still takes rather a long time for a regular charge, at around 16 hours. The run time also lacks, and you will not get more than 15 minutes in one go. If functioning with the motorized brush tool, this will reduce battery time, even more, to just about ten minutes.
What it lacks in long charge and short run times, it does make up for in power. SharkNinja makes the claim that the Pet Perfect has up to 35% more suction power than its competitors.
To extend the battery life, Shark state you should unplug the wall mountable charger after the 16 hour charging period. They also state that the vacuum cleaner should be run until the battery is totally flat, before plugging it back in for a recharge.
Bare Floor Cleaning
The cleaning of bare floors gives very satisfactory results. The suction power combined with the motorized brush makes for a great combination at picking up all the dust and dirt and of course, any pet hair.
It does, however, have a tendency to spit out larger bits of dirt with the brush attached. If your floor has such debris scattered about, you would be better off to use it without any of the three tools. The suction will still be strong enough to allow it to be used in this way.
The crevice tool will clean baseboards and the corners of your rooms while the brush tool is great for tabletops and shelving.
For use on carpets, the motorized brush will only manage to suck up the finer dust and dirt. This is a compact tool with a small opening to the filter, so it will not manage to suck larger muck through into the dust cap.
If this is the case, you are better off using the brush tool, as this will deal with the problem just fine. As long as your carpets are not completely filthy, the brush tool, we found, does an admirable job on both carpets and any velour furniture upholstery too.
Pet Hair Cleaning
Now, this is where the Pet Perfect excels. If you have a dog, cat, both or many of either, you will be all too familiar with the problem of removing their discarded hair. Yet this is a cleaner that can keep your home free from their cast-off fur. This feature alone makes it one of the best shark vacuums currently available.
Whatever the surface, with the brush tool attached, a Pet Perfect cleaner does a top job at removing the lot. It is a shame that Shark did not think to allow the brush to rotate and swivel, though, we feel. Also, it can be a little heavy on the wrist while working it over contoured surfaces.
The Pet Perfect is a bagless vacuum cleaner that collects all dirt, hair, and debris in a dust cap and filter. Obviously, you must clean these out to prevent a build-up and to keep the suction performing at its peak. The process is simple enough, but make that you don’t forget or even not bother doing it. There is a push release button to separate the dust cap and filter from the motor.
The filter can be cleaned by running warm water through it. But remember to make sure the filter is completely dry before reinstalling it to the cleaner. If it is still wet or damp, it will clog and prevent dirt from entering the dust cap. Then just empty the dirt from the dust cap into the trash and job done.
It is a recommendation to buy some extra backup filters and to replace it every now and again with a new one. This will ensure suction is kept to its maximum.
