Two Motor System
Most vacuum cleaners use a single motor that drives both the brush belt roll and the suction fan. But not so with the NV501. Here we have a cleaner that uses two electrical motor systems, one for the brush and one for the suction.
The brush belt roll has an electronic clutch that will control and reduce brush power when any resistance is sensed. The advantage of this is you will not overload the motor, while both brush and belt life are extended. So, less power is necessary for smooth surfaces, while more so is needed for deeper carpeting and that extra suction penetration.
If you are rolling across multiple surfaces, the clutch can sensor and control how much suction power to use.
Excellent Suction Control
Besides the clutch control for power output to different depths of surface, the NV501 is fitted with a sliding suction release ring. This will give you manual control of the suction tools for more delicate dusting/vacuuming around household ornaments and for above-floor cleaning.
This ring is conveniently located on the handle. Thus allowing you to ‘work it’ with your finger to reduce or increase suction. After a short time, you will get the ‘feel’ for what is suitable when more delicate vacuuming is called for. In use, it is just a case of partially blocking or unblocking the port.
If you are sucking up a larger amount of dirt, spilled food or pet hair, for example, the clutch powered motor will turn up the power and then you can control it with the suction ring.
Great Debris Pickup
The NV501 is an excellent machine for sucking up larger debris. So, if you have low pile carpeting, especially in the kitchen, or older wood flooring, for example. This is powerful enough to really suck everything that has lodged deep down within the surfaces. This makes it one of the best vacuums for hardwood floor.
The rotator on the brush digs into the grooves and textures of floors to help dislodge and vacuum up all manner of dirt and muck. Sticky messes can also be agitated and sucked up with little effort.
A Shark NV501 comes with three fitted filters. One is foam, one is felt, and the other is a HEPA filter.
The foam and felt filters help with absorbing the regular dust, dirt, and other everyday mess. These are both removable and washable. Shark recommends doing this at least once every three months.
The HEPA is a special filter that will retain the smallest of dust particles, dust mites, and allergens. This completely sealed anti-allergen filter prevents anything from being sucked up into the air to irritate the user. Again, it is easy to remove and clean the filter.
While on the subject of cleaning, It should be pointed out that you need to keep an eye on the rotating brush. As mentioned, this has the suction for picking up hair and pet fur. But, however strong a device is, hair is a nasty material that, on mass, will eventually clog up anything. So, just be aware and clean it manually if necessary.
Shark lift-away And Rotator Technology
Lift away technology allows for easy cleaning of stairs, door tops, shelves, and other ‘off floor’ objects. It has a patented lift away design, allowing you to navigate hard to reach areas easily. And you will be pleasantly surprised with the maneuverability of this vacuum cleaner.
The strong rotation and suction lifts even stubborn dirt swiftly with the minimum of effort.
Swivel steering greatly enhances the reachability of the NV501. This means you can twist and turn it around all angles and corners without having to lift it off the surface. When tackling these hard to reach areas, a fitted LED will ‘light’ the way to help you navigate and see the dirt you may otherwise be missing.
All these great features easily make this one of the best shark vacuums currently available.
